Indian Fashion Activist Aishwarya Sharma joins eSC as Team Principal of Net Zero Racers

In her journey from fashion-obsessed teenager to global ambassador, Aishwarya Sharma has been a renegade in championing the intersection of fashion and activism in the global south. Born and raised in India where the real-world social and environmental effects of the fashion industry are part of the everyday, Aishwarya has dedicated her life to address the rising humanitarian crisis surrounding the fashion industry.

Through her fashion blog and Instagram page, she has become a role model for young people resulting in her being asked to be the India Coordinator for Global Peace in 2021 but also taking her knowledge and wisdom to global corporations in partnership with brands like PUMA who are looking to change their sustainability approach.

Joining the eSkootr Championship is the next logical step in her mission to continue starting conversations about the social and environmental impact of the fashion industry with eSC’s global, urban focus and the marriage of fashion and sport in popular culture.

Below Aishwarya talks about her ambitions for the upcoming season.

eSC: Welcome to eSC Aishwarya! You are our 9th Team Principal for the 2025 season– how does it feel to join the series?

Aishwarya: Thank you! It feels incredible to join the eSC family as a Team Principal. This is a milestone moment not just for me but for what I represent – driving actionable conversation around sustainability by integrating it seamlessly in our daily lives. eSC is a global & celebrated platform, and I’m honoured to be a part of a movement that’s changing the way we think about sport, urban mobility, and a greener future.

eSC: Tell us a bit about your backstory. How did you get into sustainable fashion and activism around it?

Aishwarya: My journey began at the intersection of fashion, sustainability & social justice, with a deep love for fashion and a growing awareness of its environmental and social impact. As India’s first fashion activist, I started using storytelling and digital platforms to shed light on issues like climate change, fast fashion’s carbon footprint, and its effect on vulnerable communities in India and the entire global south. Over time, this evolved into a broader mission to integrate sustainability into everything I do: whether it’s fashion, public speaking, eating habits, and now, eSC. It’s been a powerful way to connect with people and inspire action on global issues. I have always believed fashion to be the biggest medium of change there is, it’s really phenomenal what fashion can do!

eSC: What are the biggest challenges you currently see in the fashion industry?

Aishwarya: I think the biggest challenges currently are, overconsumption and lack of transparency in supply chains. The fast-fashion cycle prioritizes quantity over quality, leading to significant environmental harm and exploitative labour practices in under-developed & developing countries. Additionally, there’s a need for greater consumer awareness and stronger policies to hold brands & people accountable. While there’s progress, we must push harder for systemic change, focusing on circular design, equitable wages, and reducing waste at scale.

eSC: What overlap do you see between fashion and sport, especially in the context of micromobility?

Aishwarya: Fashion and sport have always shared a deep cultural connection, serving as powerful platforms for self-expression and influence and this bond becomes even more intriguing when viewed through the lens of micromobility. You see, both industries thrive on innovation, trend setting, and resonating with urban audiences. Sustainable sports like eSC offer a unique stage to highlight eco-friendly designs and materials, seamlessly merging fashion with functionality. It’s a perfect opportunity to champion a greener lifestyle, all while on the move. I am, in fact, particularly excited to see how this all will come together.

eSC: What is the name of your eSC team and what is the story behind it?

Aishwarya: The name of my team is Net Zero Racers. It embodies my own commitment to sustainability, innovation & climate consciousness. My team is driven by the vision of a carbon-neutral future, setting benchmarks in eco-conscious sport. Balancing high-speed competition with low environmental impact, demonstrating that sustainability and excellence can coexist. It’s a bold statement about what’s possible when we prioritize innovation and sustainability. As someone deeply passionate about creating change, this team represents a fusion of purpose, performance, and progress, all while going GREEN, literally!

eSC: What are you most excited about this season?

Aishwarya: I’m most excited about the opportunity to inspire people globally. With six races across three continents, we have a chance to showcase not just thrilling competition but the power of sustainable living in action. I’m also looking forward to collaborating with brilliant minds in the sport and bringing fresh perspectives from my work in fashion and activism. This season is going to be an exhilarating ride and we are READY!!
